Functional Nutrition: My Story

Welcome! My name is Angie Wisdom Stastny. I am a registered dietitian and lover of all things natural.

Here’s how Functional Nutrition changed my life…

For decades, I’ve supported clients in medical settings as they navigate chronic disease. Due to these years, my true passion is helping people achieve a natural balance through diet and daily habits. That holistic lifestyle supports their body towards healing. My passion stems from both the things I’ve seen that didn’t have to be in the medical setting and also my own personal struggle. Let me tell you how Functional Nutrition made an impact in my own health journey!

One day my life took a drastic turn. Seemingly overnight, my health went from full function to complete shambles. I could barely walk much less run 5 miles, and my daily family and work routine became impossible. I spent many years visiting doctors, trying tests and seeking various treatments. Although I completely followed all suggested treatments and medications, I did not get better. One prescription turned into ten. My illness affected every area of my life, my finances, marriage, work performance and social life to name a few.

“You’ll just have to live with it,” some doctors said. My internal compass whispered, “No way!” The doctors I worked with echoed that internal voice. They believed in me and my ability to think outside the box and find solutions to improve my health. I am so grateful for those special people there who encouraged me at that low point in my life. Each health challenge became a mini course in alternative therapies and a new type of nutrition called functional nutrition.

Functional nutrition takes into account the way modern influences like chemicals, stress and our daily habits affect our body systems.

Once imbalances are identified, the functional approach provides natural interventions using food, herbs, targeted supplements and daily practices to support the body as it heals. Functional nutrition gave me the tools to recover my health.

Using these tools, I presently function at a level  I never thought would be possible.  Now I view each hurdle as a new opportunity to grow as a holistic dietician, to become more compassionate and to gain the type of insight that can only come from my firsthand experience. For that purpose, I am truly thankful for my health challenges.
